The Book Club Snub
Nearly every city has one, according to the WSJ--an exclusive bookclub that requires six letters of recommendation for an invitation to dinner and serious discussion of the latest discourse. Ten bookclubs were reviewed with these statistics: meetings held monthly, average of ten participants, no new members in the last three years, and run autocratically. The longest running bookclub is the "Epic Book Group" in Chicago with books chosen by a UC classics professor and now reading Virgil's The Aeneid. The second most tenured group is the "Evening Group" in Princeton, NJ who are now reading the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
